Introduction Photo Postcard
My name is Wanda Melendez, and I am majoring in media studies and minoring in journalism. I enjoy traveling, and I am a massive fan of Korean pop music. Before the pandemic, I traveled across the U.S to attend Kpop concerts with my friends and made vlogs for my Youtube channel about our trips. Currently, I am creating a podcast with my sister, where we plan to share our thoughts on music releases from artists we like and more. Luckily, last semester I worked on a music podcast project for the Business Careers in Entertainment Club and obtained some experience editing and recording a podcast in video and audio format. However, I am excited to be taking this class to improve my skills and learn how to tell a story more effectively, as everything I know already was self-taught and with the help of YouTube.
I enjoyed making videos and taking photos of experiences because they hold memories of the past that I can relive by simply watching the video or picture (specially now during the pandemic). I took the following image at Eric Nam’s “Before We Begin” tour stop in San Francisco, right before the COVID-19 restriction went into effect. The day after this concert, Eric Nam had to cancel his LA show, marking this concert his last stop on tour and one of the Bay Area’s last live concerts. As an avid concert attendee, this concert is one of the most memorable not only because I was close enough to capture Eric Nam’s energy on stage but for allowing me to reflect on the importance of enjoying and cherish every moment of our life. COVID-19 changed everyone’s lives drastically, that I never imagined not attending live concerts in almost two years! One day, I took photos surrounded by hundreds of fans singing along to every song and fangirling over eye contact made with the artist. The next day, I was quarantined at home, reliving such memories through these photos.
